Broadband Networks are networks that contain transmission medium that can carry signals from multiple independent network carriers on a single coaxial or fiber optic cable. This is possible by establishing different bandwidth channels. The transmission of signals from the different independent networks at different bandwidths prevents data collision and an ability to transmit a larger volume of data. This is a kind of multiplexing. We know multiplexing is the compression of data signals to increase the volume of data transmitted. This technique is called frequency-division multiplexing, data is compressed by allocating data to a frequency on the transmission medium. Broadband technology can support a wide range of frequencies and is used to transmit data, voice, and video over long distances. An example of such cabling would be ISDN. |
